About this site
A blog by Defrostatica Records founder DJ Booga, featuring interviews with DJs and artists, as well as the occasional note on music, culture, and technology.
Hi, I'm Robert Handrow aka DJ Booga. I started out as a jungle drum and bass DJ, making remixes for local bands. I also produced my only 12" record, 'Defrostatica', under the name Square7, and released a few tracks on various compilations.
Since the mid-90s, I have been involved in the Leipzig drum and bass scene and I loved sharing news about this music. So, I started a number of blogs. From 2000 to 2003, I coded a website called breaks.org. It featured local artists and nights out in my hometown. Thanks to Web 2.o I was able to run a blog with lots of local authors, promoters and artists – called It's Yours! – from 2003 to 2013.
At that time, I was really into the music from Chicago and the UK, when footwork met jungle music. In 2015, I started a record label called Defrostatica that specialises in footwork jungle and tekno music. In 2023, I founded the music publishing service Edition Aiax.

While being a dj I started to do interviews with guest djs and producers who played in Leipzig. On my blog you find conversations with artists, producers, and DJs who have influenced me.
In my posts, which I don't write very often, I look at how music, culture and technology are connected. I try to understand the effects of this on DJs, artists, producers, journalists, and not just on people who own labels and publishers.
